Shemar Stewart is getting ready to be a first-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. He's got his sights set on the NFL's first-tier talent.
Stewart, a pass rusher entering the NFL in this year's draft class out of Texas A&M, is one of the biggest boom-or-bust prospects available to teams, but his measurables and potential are going to force some team to pull the trigger early in the hopes of striking gold along the defensive front.
Shemar Stewart hasn’t played a down in the league yet—but he knows exactly who he wants first.
At 6'6, 285 lbs., Stewart comes in at No. 23 overall in this draft class on Daniel Jeremiah's Big Board. Here at Arrowhead Addict, our own Price Carter has him at No. 11 overall from a Chiefs-centric perspective. But if he's not practicing against the Chiefs' offense daily, he's looking forward to going after Patrick Mahomes anyway.
On a recent guest appearance on NFL Network's Good Morning Football, Stewart spoke about the upcoming draft and his collegiate experience. Specifically he was asked about which quarterbacks he's anxious to get after most.
"Definitely Lamar or Patrick."
Stewart only has 4.5 total sacks in his collegiate career after three seasons for the Aggies, but few scouts are counting those numbers as representative as far as his NFL stock is concerned given how disruptive he can still be (and how solid experience and coaching could take him to the next level). The length, speed, and acceleration are all too tough to pass up.
Stewart also brings a reputation for being "chippy" on the field. "I'm definitely a little menace on the field. Okay, I get a little chippy on the field. A little words be said. Friendly words ... I mean, I tend to be more calm and reserved, but when somebody starts with me, it's all hell break loose from there."
Mock drafts have Stewart going somewhere in the teens all the way to the bottom of the first round, so it's hard to tell what team might take the plunge. Peter Schrager's only mock has him at No. 29 to the Washington Commanders while Mel Kiper has him going to the Cincinnati Bengals several picks earlier at No. 17.
