Insider Addresses if Raiders Could Sign Former $36 Million Pro Bowler

The Las Vegas Raiders' starting running back job should be filled for the next several years after they selected Ashton Jeanty with the No. 6 overall pick. He's the highest running back drafted since Saquon Barkley in 2018, and expectations are sky high.

That said, Jeanty had 750 rushing attempts in college, so there's already a lot of wear and tear on his body. The Raiders may be keen on bringing in more bodies to share the workload at running back.

The biggest name still available in free agency is Nick Chubb. The former Pro Bowler for the Cleveland Browns was once considered a top running back in the NFL, but injuries derailed his career.

Chubb was limited to eight games last season and only rushed for 332 yards. It's possible that he'll never be the same since suffering a torn MCL and a damaged ACL during the 2023 season.

At the same time, he'd likely be cheap and not much of a risk. Regardless, Vincent Bonsignore of the Las Vegas Review-Journal was asked about the possibility of the Raiders signing Chubb, and he doesn't see it happening.

"Chubb probably wants to go somewhere where he is guaranteed playing time," Bonsignore wrote. "That’s not going to happen with the Raiders with rookie Ashton Jeanty and veteran Raheem Mostert holding down the top two spots."

In addition to Mostert and Jeanty, the Raiders still have Sincere McCormick and Zamir White under contract, who have both shown some flashes. Adding another running back isn't a big priority for Las Vegas right now.
