Patricia Reveals How Whitney Is Doing After Buying Her House: "He Had No Idea What It Took"

EXCLUSIVE: Southern Charm's Patricia Altschul shared new details about selling her $15 million home in Charleston to her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith.

As Patricia Altschul shared on Season 10, Episode 4 of Southern Charm, she sold her iconic Isaac Jenkins Mikell house to her son, Whitney Sudler-Smith. Recently, Patricia spoke with The Daily Dish to share more details about Whitney taking over the estate, and what's in store for the future.

"It’s been working out nicely. I think that he had no idea what it took to run a historic home, because there’s always something that needs to be done [or] that has to be handled: a new crack, a new leak," Patricia shared of her son's being tasked with taking over the historic estate.

Patricia added how "great" it's been to abdicate some of her responsibilities, further noting how much Whitney loves using Michael Kelcourse's former cottage that he remodeled.

"He has a bar, kitchen, living room downstairs with a fireplace, and then upstairs he made it into an office and keeps all of his guitars there, thankfully," she laughed. "So, I mean he has a proper place now to have meetings and he has an office with everything that he needs." Patricia Altschul and Whitney Sudler-Smith sitting inside their home on sofas.

Though Whitney took over the estate, he and his mother still have their respective areas of the home to themselves.

"His wing at the end of this house is separate, you know, he can come and go," she shared.

Why did Patricia Altschul sell her house to Whitney Sudler-Smith?

On the January 30 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, Patricia revealed more details about why she passed the home down to Whitney, explaining, "I gave him a good deal."

"It's all for estate planning [and] asset allocation," she continued. "And he can afford it."

Built in the 1850s, the sprawling house spans 9,500 square feet and has 10 bedrooms—hence, a lot of upkeep (tour the beautiful estate in the video above).

Austen Kroll, who joined Patricia in the Clubhouse for the evening, expanded on the reasoning behind the real estate decision.

"Whitney was tired of hearing that he lives in his mom's house," Austen laughed, as Patricia confirmed, "That's the other thing."
