Packers WR Posts Curious Message Regarding Agent Amid Draft Drama

Green Bay Packers, Jayden Reed

Following Wednesday’s practice, Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed addressed a report by ESPN’s Adam Schefter regarding a conversation between his new agent, Drew Rosenhaus, and general manager Brian Gutekunst.

Rosenhaus wanted assurance that the Packers would continue to feature Reed as the team’s No. 1 wide receiver after they selected Matthew Golden with the No. 23 pick in the draft. Gutekunst suggested Reed would be the top target.

A misinterpreted report on the Green Bay Packers

Reed believes the report was misinterpreted and took issue with the story being leaked, saying it was supposed to remain “confidential.”

“A lot of people misinterpreted that,” Reed said on Wednesday, via Matt Schneidman of The Athletic.  “Like I hired a new agent, and we talked about it before even the draft, really, that, (Rosenhaus) was gonna talk to the front office and everybody here, to catch up and make sure everybody on the same page. And as a new client, he told me that it’s the way he was going to do, and he did it.

“Now I don’t know how I got out, because it was supposed to be confidential. But that’s how it go sometimes. People get a different perception, and they make their own perception, which is okay.”

It was unclear if Reed was upset with the Packers’ front office or his agent for leaking the story. It appears Reed thinks Rosenhaus was behind the leak.

Jayden Reed: This guy knows ball

On X, Reed posted “This guy knows ball,” in response to former Packers left tackle David Bakhtiari’s take on Schefter’s report earlier in May.

“My interpretation from this: Player is disgruntled based off draft and previous season’s # of targets,” Bakhtiari wrote on X. “Rightfully so, this is a Business EOD. (11 is a stud) We are payed off performance. Hard to negotiate when you don’t have numbers to compare.

“Flashy agent wants to retain and continue earning players business/respect. Says he will talk to GM and reassure. (All this is-is brownie points) *Forces call with Gutey* Gutey says whatever agent/player wants to hear. (Happy player = Good for Business) Agent reports back to player he “stuck his neck out for him. (Technically he did) Player is happy…..for now.

Agent texts reporter with large following/relationship to push this narrative to reinforce narrative to player. Uses this for recruiting down the road as an “agent that goes above and beyond.” (Means nothing at the EOD) End scene.”

It might mean nothing at the end of the day. But Reed didn’t seem happy that the story ended up in ESPN. It’s going to be a story that will be referenced numerous times if the ball doesn’t go his way enough in Green Bay this season.

Reed hired Rosenhaus for a reason. He’s going to have to trust the process or eventually find new representation. It’s a smart look for the agent to publicly show he’s helping his client… Until the client isn’t satisfied with the resuts.
