Packers Rumors: Matt LaFleur Makes Emphatic Statement Regarding Future of Romeo Doubs

The Green Bay Packers are now 3-2 on the season (along with every other NFC North team that is not the Minnesota Vikings) following their 24-19 victory over the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday. The win featured several brilliant performances, such as Xavier McKinney‘s fifth interception of the season. His pick in the second half made him the first player since the NFL/AFL merger to have an interception in each of his first five games with a new team.

Offensively, the Packers got big games from wide receiver Jayden Reed and tight end Tucker Kraft, who had four receptions apiece. Reed had 78 yards and Kraft had 88 to go with two touchdowns.

Of course, the Packers were able to secure the win without one of their most important offensive players, wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

After participating in practice with the Packers on Wednesday, Doubs was a no-show on both Thursday and Friday. According to a report by Bill Huber of Sports Illustrated, the third-year wide receiver was unhappy with his role on the team.

While no one doubts the story, it was still a confusing situation. Going into Week Five, Doubs was third on the team with 20 targets. Only Reed and Dontayvion Wicks had more. He also had played more snaps than any other Packers wide receiver.

Since he came into the NFL in 2022, Doubs has been one of the most intriguing Packers wide receivers. He is just the third receiver in franchise history to have 100 receptions, 1,000 receiving yards, and 10 touchdowns in his first two seasons.

On Saturday, Green Bay announced it was suspending Doubs for the game against the Rams. However, they also stated that they were hopeful for a positive resolution and that he would rejoin the team this week.

On Monday, Packers head coach Matt LaFleur addressed the media, as he does the day after every game. This press conference was particularly intriguing because it came after his one-on-one meeting with Doubs.

Of course, he was asked about the situation and Doubs’ role with the team going forward. While he would not go into details regarding their conversation, he did say, “I’m not gonna get into the specifics but I think it was productive and we look forward to getting him back on Wednesday.

The Packers return to practice on Wednesday, and Doubs appears to be on track to rejoin the team. Earlier on Monday, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler posted the following:

And so, this dramatic short chapter of the Packers’ 2024 NFL season is over. It happened, they dealt with it, and it’s over.

A similar thing happened with Jaire Alexander last season, and both the player and team were better because of the conversations they had as a result.

The same should be true for Doubs now.
