Packers News: Malik Willis’ Honest Admission About Opportunity Amid Jordan Love’s Absence

Malik Willis answered the call again as the starting quarterback for the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Against his former team, Willis was steady once again under center for the Packers, as he finished Green Bay’s 30-14 win over the Tennessee Titans in Week 3 with  202 passing yards and a touchdown with zero interceptions on 13/19 pass completions.

It appears that Willis is getting more comfortable under center for the Packers. In Week 2, he only had 14 pass attempts, as Green Bay looked to attack more on the ground versus the Indianapolis Colts. The Packers went run-heavy again in Week 3, but the team’s passing attack had a bigger role.

Willis spoke about his mindset before games, as the Packers continue to wait for Jordan Love to heal up from his injury.

“You don’t know when opportunity will come, but you have to be ready for it if you get it,” Willis said after the win over his former team, per the Associated Press (h/t ESPN).

Love was injured late in Week 1’s loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Brazil, forcing the Packers to turn to their new quarterback in Willis, who was acquired by Green Bay via a trade with the Titans just before the statt of the 2024 season.

Whether Willis will get another shot at a spot start in Week 4 against the Minnesota Vikings is up in the air at the moment, but what’s clear is that he’s played much better than what most expected him to in the two starts for the Packers.
