Packers' Matt LaFleur hopes to finalize reworked deal soon with $84 million injury prone veteran

The Green Bay Packers are aiming for an even better season than last year, when they reached the NFL Playoffs. Their offense is set and looks promising, but the defense raises some concerns—particularly in the cornerback room, with veteran Jaire Alexander at the center of attention. Alexander has battled injuries the last couple of seasons, keeping him off the field often.

Alexander and the Packers are currently working toward a new contract agreement. If a deal isn't reached, Alexander could be placed on the trade block. Both sides are negotiating in hopes of reaching a mutually beneficial resolution.

"On the contract front, the Packers could want a revised deal that allows Alexander — who has missed at least 10 games in three of the last four seasons — to earn his full salary if he's healthy and available in 2025 but protects the team in case the injuries continue," Zach Kruse wrote.

The Packers are making a strong effort to keep Alexander both happy and on the roster. Although he hasn't signed a restructured deal yet, he remains in daily communication with the coaching staff.

"Alexander has not reported to the Packers’ voluntary workouts, which would raise red flags over his status with the team. While speculation has run wild, passing game coordinator Derrick Ansley sang a different tune, telling ESPN’s Rob Demovsky that he’s been in contact with Alexander every day while skipping the offseason workouts," Chris Schad wrote.

Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently spoke about Alexander, offering comments that should give Green Bay fans hope he’ll be back with the team. LaFleur emphasized his desire to see the contract situation resolved soon.

"That’s just something we are working through and hopefully we’ll have some resolution sooner than later," LaFleur said.

The Packers not only need Alexander back this season—they need him healthy for the duration of the year. LaFleur’s comments suggest that both sides are motivated to get a deal done in the near future.
