Oilers loan Noah Philp to AHL’s Condors

The Edmonton Oilers have made a roster move Wednesday as Connor McDavid returns from injury, loaning forward Noah Philp to the AHL’s Bakersfield Condors.

Philp is set to join the Condors in Calgary Wednesday, as they take on the Wranglers in the second half of a back-to-back. He, along with Drake Caggiula, were recalled by the Oilers after McDavid went down with an ankle injury nine days ago, but the Oilers captain is set to return to the lineup tonight.

Caggiula was sent down to the AHL Tuesday, allowing the Oilers to no longer dip into their LTIR pool and begin accruing cap space again, while Philp’s assignment will free his money off the books, too.

The latter showed well in his first three NHL games, scoring an assist early in his first game, while taking four shots on goal across them. He had a tremendous training camp for the Oilers, and was one of the last players to be assigned to the team’s AHL affiliate. Philp has drawn in for six games for the Condors so far this season, scoring two goals and three points.

Bakersfield has been dealing with a slew of injuries, with James Hamblin, Lane Pederson and now Roby Jarventie banged up. The Condors signed former first-round pick Brayden Tracey to a professional tryout earlier this week, while Philp will add some more depth to their forward ranks.

Ronnie Attard, acquired by the Oilers on Monday from the Philadelphia Flyers, will debut with the Condors tonight. Ben Gleason went the other way in the swap of defenceman, helping the Condors with a log-jam of left-shot defenceman, and helping them get under the AHL veteran lineup limit.
