Former Oilers goaltender Collin Delia has departed North America and is going overseas to sign a contract with Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League.
One of the biggest tasks for Edmonton Oilers general manager Stan Bowman to correct is his goaltending situation, as it would be malfeasance to go into the critical 2025-26 season, the final year of Connor McDavid's current contract, with the same duo of Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard.
But while that works itself out, the Oilers have lost one goaltender in their organization. Depth goaltender Collin Delia, who spent this year playing in the minors after signing a contract with Edmonton last summer, has signed overseas with Brynas IF in the Swedish Hockey League, the top hockey League in Sweden.
Never drafted into the NHL, Delia signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017, and would make his NHL debut with the team in March 2018.
But he would suffer an injury, as did starter Anton Forsberg, which prompted emergency goalie Scott Foster to go the rest of the way and eventually pick up the win.
Delia was later signed to a 3-year contract by the Blackhawks and would split his time between Chicago and the AHL affiliate Rockford Ice Hogs.
He has then signed contracts with the Vancouver Canucks, the Winnipeg Jets, and the Edmonton Oilers.
He most recently played in the NHL for the Canucks in 2023-24, going 10-6-2 with a 3.68 GAA.
He went 12-11-3 with the AHL's Bakersfield Condors, Edmonton's AHL affiliate, and had a 2.76 GAA and .906 SV%.
In 52 career NHL games, Delia has gone 19-18-7 with a 3.51 GAA and .897 SV% with zero shutouts.
