NFL reporter suggests Washington Commanders rookie is crucial missing piece to 2025 success, who can ‘really impact…’

The Washington Commanders are ready to make a Super Bowl push, having hit the jackpot with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels. They’ve made various trades for veteran talent, but still had holes to fill in the 2025 NFL draft. Among those selections is one playmaker who could fill a very important role.

NFL reporter suggests Washington Commanders rookie is crucial missing piece to 2025 success, who can ‘really impact…’

Dan Quinn and the Washington Commanders will be looking to build on their NFC Championship appearance this year. They far surpassed any expectations set for Jayden Daniels‘ rookie season, with Quinn almost reaching another Super Bowl in his first season in charge.

Washington’s window to win with major additions

The Washington Commanders are currently enjoying one of the NFL’s greatest luxuries. They have a franchise quarterback on a rookie contract for four more seasons, who they believe can win them a Super Bowl. We’ve seen that same scenario with Patrick Mahomes and Joe Burrow, allowing their franchises to go all in and build around them.

Jayden Daniels was exceptional in his rookie year, throwing for 3,568 passing yards and 25 touchdowns during the regular season. He added another 891 rushing yards and six touchdowns on the ground, proving to be one of the league’s best dual-threat quarterbacks right out of the gate.

The Commanders are thrilled with their pick, and almost immediately went to work on adding as much talent as they can in a clear Super Bowl window. That started with the trade for cornerback Marshon Lattimore, and continued into the offseason.

Washington spent the offseason looking for more experienced talent, and made two more trades for wide receiver Deebo Samuel and offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil. The roster now features some exceptional veterans, and the Commanders might not be done adding to it yet.

While the veterans will likely contribute early, the 2025 draft class should also play a significant role in the upcoming season. Fourth round wide receiver Jaylin Lane could have an early impact in the return game, and Commanders legend Fred Smoot believes he will also plug into the Deebo Samuel gadget-type role in the offense.

Their first round pick, tackle Josh Conerly Jr. is expected to be a developmental type selection, but it’s their second rounder who could be the most important piece in 2025.

Cornerback Trey Amos locked down the SEC all season long at Ole Miss, and came out of college as one of the most respected defensive backs in the class. The Commanders drafted him with the 61st pick in the second round, finalizing a cornerback group that could become one of the best in the league.

Amos joins Lattimore and slot corner Mike Sainristil, revamping a group that was among the worst in the league just a couple of seasons ago. While discussing with Ian Rapoport, reporter Steve Wyche said:

“Last week he (Amos) started taking reps with the first team defense, not full time, occasional reps, but they were getting him ready. They wanted a longer corner, and he’s six-foot-one, 195 lbs on the outside, so they can use Marshon Lattimore on the other side and Mike Sainristil in the slot, and he can really impact their coverage…”

Amos reportedly turned heads at minicamp, locking up Deebo Samuel on multiple routes.

He’ll be on display once again when the Commanders rookies report for minicamp on July 18th. The rest of the roster will join them on the 22nd.

Dan Quinn ready for another shot at the Lombardi

Dan Quinn waited for the right opportunity before returning to a head coaching position. His last attempt saw him reach the Super Bowl with the Atlanta Falcons before squandering the now-famous 28-3 lead against Tom Brady and the New England Patriots.

He spent three seasons as the defensive coordinator of the Dallas Cowboys, and despite multiple teams showing interest over the course of each offseason, Quinn was reluctant to leave his post.

Eventually, the Commanders came calling with the second overall pick in the draft and a newly appointed GM in Adam Peters. The lure of a new franchise quarterback and a new chapter in Washington was enough to capture his attention, and so far it’s been the perfect marriage.

Quinn took the Commanders to the NFC title game in one season, with the help of a sensational young quarterback in Daniels. The two are now expected to be a budding force in the NFC, and are considered one of the contenders to make the Super Bowl in 2025.
