Quarterback Mac Jones made his first appearance of the 2024 season on Monday night, and it was the first off the bench for the former Alabama All-American in his NFL career.

Jones relieved starter Trevor Lawrence with the Buffalo Bills running away to a 47-10 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In the NFL’s other Monday night game, Washington rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels completed 21-of-23 passes for 254 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions and ran 12 times for 39 yards and one touchdown in a 38-33 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals. The game was the first in the NFL without a turnover or a punt since 1940.

Jacksonville lifted Trevor Lawrence with the Jaguars trailing 40-10 after he completed 21-of-38 passes for 178 yards with one touchdown and one interception.

Jones played Jacksonville’s last two series and completed 5-of-8 passes for 22 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions.

Jones’ first possession ended when he lost a fumble on a sack by former Troy standout Javon Solomon, who made his NFL debut on Monday night.

On the next series, the Jaguars moved from their 30-yard line to the Buffalo 10, where Jones’ fourth-and-8 pass into the end zone went incomplete with 44 seconds to play.

Buffalo scored a touchdown on all five of its first-half possessions, with quarterback Josh Allen tossing four TD passes.

“There have to be changes,” Jacksonville coach Doug Pederson said about his winless team after the game. “Whether it’s personnel, play design, everything’s on the table. Let’s call it. And those are all things that I have to look at, we have to look at as a staff and make the adjustments.”

A first-round selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, Jones served as the New England Patriots’ starting quarterback until being benched with six games remaining in the 2023 season. The Jaguars obtained Jones in a trade in March.
