NFL expert says the Cowboys did something that does not work anywhere else ‘outside of Kansas City’

The Dallas Cowboys have had to deal with the onslaught of the media and they have currently shown a lack of support for Dak Prescott in the offseason.

Besides the fact that Dak Prescott remains without an extension and is set to play into a contract year, he has been given no star talent to get over the postseason hump.

Jerry Jones decided to let key offensive linemen like Tyler Biadasz and Tyron Smith leave in free agency.

Moreover, the choice to not franchise tag Tony Pollard left their rushing core in a dire situation. The 81-year-old owner was keen to re-sign Pollard but the price was too steep.

Inevitably, the free-agent running back left for a three-year deal in Tennessee.

Prescott has seen several key offensive pieces leave Dallas and has had no experienced talent fulfill their vacant roles.

Jones has chosen to pursue the cheaper route and draft rookie starters to replace their fallen veterans.

Dallas decided to reunite with the former First-Team All-Pro Ezekiel Elliott

In addition, the aging Ezekiel Elliott has returned to Dallas and will share the reps with Rico Dowdle.

Dallas is stuck in a dangerous situation which could prove costly for their unpredictable season.

Rookies are an excellent rebuilding strategy for the long term but are no guarantee to deliver instant success.

NFL expert believes the Cowboys need to invest in their skilled positions

On the FS1 program Speak, the crew debated if the Dallas Cowboys have supported Dak Prescott enough in recent seasons.

NFL expert Carmen Vitali believed the franchise had not done enough: “At least try to surround him with better talent.

“Look at his skill players, his wide receiver two was a tight end and that doesn’t work anywhere outside of Kansas City.”

Vitali made reference to the Cowboys’ wide receiving core outside of CeeDee Lamb. Lamb finished with the second-most-receiving yards in the league (1,749), behind the Miami Dolphins Tyreek Hill.

However, wide receivers two and three, Brandin Cooks and Micahel Gallup, both failed to post more than 700 yards in 2023.

Yet, tight end Jake Ferguson managed to haul in 761 yards during a breakout season for the sophomore player.

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the few teams where their tight end outperforms their WR2

The Kansas City Chiefs are one of the few successful teams that have a tight end outperforming their WR2/WR3.

This can be a successful combination, but even the Chiefs have looked to upgrade their receiving core.

The Dallas Cowboys decided to cut Michael Gallup but have not tried to find a replacement. Michael Thomas has been linked to a potential move.

Additionally, the Cowboys could turn to Jalon Tolbert to make the step up to WR3.
