NFL analyst links Cowboys with outrageous trade for disgruntled superstar

Jerry Jones hasn't been known for making big splashes in the trade market in recent years. That didn't stop one NFL analyst from linking the Dallas Cowboys with a move that would shake the league to its foundations.

Jones prefers the more traditional method of roster building these days. He's not exactly handled personnel well during the Cowboys' constant underachievement over the last three decades, but the owner/general manager's heart is in the right place. He wants to build through the draft and reward those who prove their worth. That didn't change this offseason.

It's been another underwhelming recruitment period from Dallas' perspective. They signed some decent players and let some take their chances elsewhere. That's all part of the annual turnover, but whether it's enough to keep pace with the Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles in the NFC East is another matter.

Adding more firepower around quarterback Dak Prescott would be beneficial. The Cowboys are probably looking to the 2025 NFL Draft for reinforcements. But Cody Benjamin from CBS Sports had something far bolder in mind.

Cowboys could galvanize the fanbase by landing Tyreek Hill via trade

The analyst named Dallas among the potential suitors for Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill. His cryptic social media activity in recent days saw speculation regarding a move resurface once again. Benjamin thought the Cowboys could reignite their fanbase by landing one of the league's most dynamic playmakers if he eventually became available.

"The Cowboys used to be addicted to the "splash move," but they've been stagnant as of late. Acquiring Hill would be the kind of blockbuster that vaults them back into the limelight, for better or worse. Hill is aging, but Dallas needs a proven running mate for CeeDee Lamb, as evidenced by the club's pursuit of Cooper Kupp. And they've still got more than $30 million in 2025 salary cap space."

Hill was reportedly unhappy last season before patching things up with the Dolphins. But reading between the lines of his responses on X (formerly Twitter) about a trade, the situation remains volatile.

There should be a market for Hill if the Dolphins become receptive to offers. He's still an elite player despite the baggage attached. Even so, don't expect the Cowboys to throw their hat in the ring.

Jones is already paying CeeDee Lamb significant money. Adding another highly-paid wideout doesn't seem feasible despite the obvious benefits attached. There's also the small matter of the potential trade compensation Miami could demand, which wouldn't be cheap by any stretch of the imagination.

The Cowboys' brass promised to be selectively aggressive this offseason. Jones made a couple of trades for underperforming former first-round picks and fortified the running back room, but nothing that could move the needle all that much. There remains a sense of stubbornness regarding Jones' approach, which is no more evident than the team's current contract stalemate with All-Pro edge rusher Micah Parsons.

As for Hill? He's probably just blowing off some steam. Although it's a situation some teams around the league could be watching with a keener interest than before.

Just don't count on Dallas being one of them.
