Minnesota Vikings QB Opening More a Draw To Colin Kapernick Than The Chargers Coaching Gig; For A Dark Reason?

Jim Harbaugh might be offering Colin Kaepernick a way back into the NFL, but what the Minnesota Vikings have open is what the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback would want to consider. The Vikings are looking for veteran quarterbacks to add to the roster after losing rookie J.J. McCarthy for the season.

As previously discussed on GH, Harbaugh told Jarrett Bell with USA Today that Kaepernick is considering taking a coaching job with the Los Angeles Chargers:

“If that was ever the path he was to take, I think that would be tremendous,” Harbaugh told Bell. “He’d be a tremendous coach, if that’s the path he chose..

“Yeah, we talked a little bit about it,” Harbaugh said. “He’s considering it. He was out of the country. He said he was going to get back to me. We haven’t reconnected since then. That was early, early in the year.”

Kaepernick wants a QB job, would the Minnesota Vikings work?

In an interview with Sky Sports, Kaepernick said recently that he’s training to try and win a Super Bowl as a quarterback this season:

“We’re still training, still pushing,” Kaepernick said. “So hopefully. We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up…

“We’ve just got to get one of these team owners to open up,” Kaepernick said. “It’s something I’ve trained my whole life for, so to be able to step back on the field, I think that would be a major moment, a major accomplishment for me. I think I could bring a lot to a team and help them win a championship.”

Kaepernick can’t join the NFL and continue to play the martyr

Kaepernick should realize that his best opportunity to make a difference in the league and on a team is to be a coach. His prospects of being a practice squad quarterback wouldn’t move the needle on a Super Bowl run.

The Chargers have quarterback issues this preseason, especially with Justin Herbert’s injury. Harbaugh doesn’t consider Kaepernick a solution on the Chargers practice squad.

Some in the Vikings fanbase have agitated on social media Wednesday for the team to sign Kaepernick now that McCarthy is out for the season. Kaepernick might claim vocally to want that, but he has to know the Vikings wouldn’t offer him the path he wants in signing a contract.

As for the Chargers, the second Kaepernick decides to become a coach is the day he has to stop choosing to play the perpetual martyr.

Kaepernick has a path to rejoin the NFL. He refuses to take it.
