Micah Parsons’ Message to Commanders Sparks Buzz After Stunning Trade Demand

Parsons might have initially faced a backlash for this seeming endorsement of the Cowboys’ fiercest NFC East rivals, but things have changed since. Adams is right to wonder if Durant’s prediction about Parsons in a Commanders uniform is set to come true ahead of schedule.

There are several reasons why a trade would make sense, despite Washington dealing with its own disgruntled superstar who wants out, wide receiver Terry McLaurin.

Commanders Can Pursue Micah Parsons Trade Over Terry McLaurin Deal

If it comes to a choice, the Commanders should make pursuing a trade for Parsons their priority over securing a new deal for McLaurin. The sticking point with the latter involves his age, with Dianna Russini of The Athletic reporting, “Washington has maintained the stance that McLaurin’s age impacts his value and price point. McLaurin turns 30 on September 15th.”

Parsons is a different case because he’s just 26 and still approaching his peak. That’s a scary thought for the rest of the NFL about one of the most productive and versatile pass-rushers in the game.

Quinn knows all about Parsons’ skill-set from their time together with the Cowboys. It was Quinn who unlocked Parsons as a dynamic edge-rusher who could also be moved anywhere along the front to create pressure.

Those qualities make Parsons the bluechip quarterback hunter the Commanders still need, even after adding eight-time Pro Bowler Von Miller in free agency. A Parsons and Miller double act would elevate Washington’s pass rush to a Super Bowl level.

Commanders Have Room for One More Big-Name Veteran

Signing 36-year-old Miller proved the Commanders aren’t afraid to make the moves they need to make to capitalize on an open Super Bowl window. That opening was created by star quarterback Jayden Daniels, the No. 2 pick in last year’s draft, who went on to become NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Daniels is the young playmaker who can take the Commanders all the way, provided he has the right supporting cast. General manager Adam Peters has sought to put the right people around Daniels by trading for established commodities like four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Marshon Lattimore, along with All-Pros, wide receiver Deebo Samuel and left tackle Laremy Tunsil.

Striking a deal for one more marquee name makes sense. Especially when Parsons remains prolific putting pressure on the pocket, per The 33rd Team.

Quinn and defensive coordinator Joe Whitt Jr. would have no trouble finding ways to unleash Parsons, Miller and similarly roving rusher, linebacker Frankie Luvu from multiple angles. The combination would cause havoc for every offense on the schedule, but that havoc would surely come at a steep price.

The Cowboys would be loath to send Parsons to an opponent they face twice a year, but the Commanders have the incentive to change their minds. A big enough offer from Peters, coupled with Parsons’s obvious desire to work with Quinn again, could prove decisive.
