Jimmy Butler's name has been dominating the headlines in recent weeks since he made it clear that he wants to leave the Miami Heat in an attempt to rediscover his joy from playing basketball.
In a situation like this, an exit becomes pretty much inevitable. But engineering one for Butler won't be a simple task due to a variety of reasons.
Butler is 35 years old and has a long history of injury problems. While he has repeatedly stepped up in big moments for the Heat, there is always the risk that a sharp decline is around the corner.
Then there is his contract situation. Butler has a player option for next season and it has been widely reported that he plans to turn it down in search of a longer deal.
There are very few teams with the capacity to sign Butler if he does become a free agent next summer. The Brooklyn Nets might very well be one of them though as they are the only team currently slated for max cap space this offseason.
But as reported by Sam Quinn in CBS Sports, according to Marc Stein, the Nets are not planning to pursue Butler as a free agent this offseason.
Instead, it looks like the Nets are hoping to get a run at trading for Giannis Antetokounmpo at some point in the future as the Milwaukee Bucks struggle to compete.
On the other hand, what does the future hold for Butler? That is unclear as of now but it does not look like he will be playing his basketball in Brooklyn.
