Alabama alumnus Kneeland Hibbett was briefly the only long snapper on the Miami Dolphins’ roster. Then he wasn’t on the roster at all.
Hibbett signed with the Dolphins as an undrafted rookie on Friday, the day after Miami announced the release of long snapper Blake Ferguson.
Ferguson served as the Dolphins’ long snapper for five seasons. But in 2024, Ferguson had played in only five games when Miami placed him on the non-football illness list and used four long snappers to get through the remaining 12 games on its schedule.
About four hours after announcing Hibbett’s signing on Friday, which made the former Florence High School standout the only long snapper on the NFL team’s roster, the Dolphins announced the signing of Joe Cardona. New England released Cardona on April 29 after he had served as the Patriots’ long snapper for the past 10 seasons.
After signing Cardona, Miami announced it had waived Hibbett on Saturday.
Hibbett worked as Alabama’s long snapper for four seasons.
