Former Alabama All-American Tua Tagovailoa is scheduled to lead the Miami Dolphins against the Washington Commanders in the NFL’s first game in Spain.
The NFL announced its international schedule for the 2025 season on Tuesday, with the Dolphins and Commanders set to square off on Nov. 16 at Bernabeu Stadium, the home of the soccer giant Real Madrid.
Tagovailoa has been the Dolphins’ quarterback in one other international game. He came back from a three-game absence caused by a rib injury to throw for 329 yards and two touchdowns in London, but Miami lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-20 on Oct. 17, 2021.
Another NFL quarterback with Alabama football roots got an overseas assignment on Tuesday. Former Pinson Valley High School and Auburn standout Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos are scheduled to play the New York Jets on Oct. 12 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London.
In his second NFL season, this would be Nix’s first international game.
In addition to the first game in Spain, the NFL also will play its first game in Ireland and its first game in Berlin during the 2025 season. The NFL has played four previous games in Germany, but those were contested in Munich and Frankfurt.
The NFL overseas games announced on Tuesday include:
- Minnesota Vikings vs. Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 28 at Croke Park in Dublin
- Minnesota Vikings vs. Cleveland Browns on Oct. 5 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London
- Denver Broncos vs. New York Jets on Oct. 12 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London
- Los Angeles Rams vs. Jacksonville Jaguars on Oct. 19 at Wembley Stadium in London
- Atlanta Falcons vs. Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 9 at Olympic Stadium in Berlin
- Washington Commanders vs. Miami Dolphins on Nov. 16 at Bernabeu Stadium in Madrid
All those games are scheduled to kick off at 8:30 a.m. Central and will be televised by NFL Network.
The NFL has one other international game on its 2025 schedule but did not release the matchup on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Chargers will serve as the home team in the league’s second game of the 2025 season on Sept. 5 at Corinthians Arena in Sao Paulo. It’s the second straight season the NFL has staged its second game on Friday night of Week 1 in Brazil.
The NFL will announce the Chargers’ opponent on Wednesday, when the entire schedule for the 2025 campaign will be unveiled.
