Stop me if you’ve heard this before: the New York Giants must improve their offensive line. It’s been a talking point—and a position of need—that fans and critics alike have begged New York to fix for years.
Even though New York’s O-line improved significantly last season, allowing 48 sacks compared to an NFL-worst 85 in 2023, it still has plenty of issues to address. The unit was ranked 28th in pass blocking and 27th in run blocking during the 2024 season.
With an aging quarterback in Russell Wilson, the possibility of throwing rookie Jaxson Dart into the fire this season, and a couple of young running backs looking to add some offensive firepower, the offensive line can't keep letting them down.
Even though there hasn't been any indication that the G-Men want to improve the unit by adding another offensive lineman, a trade with their in-state, little brother remains a potential option if they choose to go in that direction.
Giants urged to trade for NY Jets Alijah Vera-Tucker
Trades between the Giants and Jets are rare, but if there’s one that makes sense for both sides, Brandon Austin of Pro Football Network views guard Alijah Vera-Tucker of the Jets as a massive upgrade for the G-Men at the guard position. He writes:
"Guard Alijah Vera-Tucker could be an intriguing addition if the New York Jets, who are currently facing a dilemma, are willing to deal with their neighbors."
"The Jets have a roster full of talented players nearing the end of their contracts. New general manager Darren Mougey must make tough decisions about which young standouts to extend and which to let go. And among those with trade potential, Vera-Tucker stands out as a viable candidate."
Even though the Giants made moves already this offseason to improve their offensive line by signing left tackle James Hudson in free agency as well as drafting Marcus Mbow in the fifth round, Vera-Tucker could really be a nice fit. After a couple of injury-plagued seasons, Vera-Tucker finally stayed healthy last season, allowing a 1.74% pressure rate, was penalized just five times and gave up a mere four sacks.
Even though Big Blue has already made moves this offseason to improve their offensive line—signing left tackle James Hudson in free agency and drafting Marcus Mbow in the fifth round—Vera-Tucker could still be a strong fit. After a couple of injury-plagued seasons, he finally stayed healthy last year, allowing just a 1.74% pressure rate, committing only five penalties, and surrendering only four sacks.
If the Jets want to move on from Vera-Tucker, why shouldn't Gang Green's big brother take a chance on him? Despite his limited snap count the past couple of seasons, his addition can apply pressure to both Evan Neal and Jermaine Eluemunor, who are both entering a critical year.
