Latest DK Metcalf trade rumor exactly what Seahawks' John Schneider wants to hear

Will the Seattle Seahawks trade wide receiver DK Metcalf or won't they? That is one of the biggest storylines of the team's offseason. In all likelihood, he will stick with Seattle. So will quarterback Geno Smith. Wide receiver Tyler Lockett might be a different story.

One reason not to move Metcalf would be that while he is one of the very few pieces that Seattle might get some kind of decent return from if that return is not at least one second-round choice, then there is no point. The receiver is quite productive, and his size and speed force opponents to game-plan for him. That helps fellow receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba's job be a little easier.

DK Metcalf of the Seattle Seahawks

One recently rumored trade by Bleacher Report involving Metcalf might be one Seahawks general manager John Schneider will not want to pass up, though. The theory is that the Kansas City Chiefs would trade at least their first-round choice in 2025 for the receiver. To be sure, there might not be any ongoing talks between the Chiefs and Seahawks, but maybe there should be.

Could the Seattle Seahawks ship DK Metcalf to the Kansas City Chiefs?

One of the few needs the Chiefs have is at wideout. Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy might be fine, though neither has yet proven they can be as productive as Metcalf. Having a receiver like Metcalf on the outside is also going to help quarterback Patrick Mahomes bounce back to his 2022 level. While he certainly hasn't been bad in each of the last two seasons, they are also arguably his worst years in the league.

Kansas City is also unlikely to find a player of any position at the 31st overall pick in the 2025 NFL draft as good as Metcalf would be over the next several seasons. The receiver is only 27 years old. He should have at least three more years to play at a high level.

The Seahawks could do a number of things with the 31st pick. The team could package that and their number 18 choice in the first round to move up in the draft to take a player Schneider really likes, potentially even high enough to take one of the two best quarterbacks available. Those would be Cam Ward and Shedeur Sanders.

Seattle might also be able to keep Tyler Lockett if Metcalf is traded somewhat soon. Moving Metcalf would save Seattle $10,875,471. If Lockett is willing to restructure his deal, Seattle could have enough money saved from the Metcalf trade to keep Lockett around.

The issue, of course, is that Seattle would need to find a receiver who can take Metcalf's place. Some players who might still be available in the second round for the Seahawks would be Tre Harris from Ole Miss (he is 6'3" with good speed) and Eric Ayomanor from Stanford (he is 6'2" with even better speed).
