The Las Vegas Raiders have an obvious quarterback problem going on in their building. They have two quarterbacks who are even worth talking about, but both of them are bad and have played badly. And, the one who is better, as Aidan O'Connell obviously is, is now hurt.
O'Connell has a broken thumb and will be out for four to six weeks, based on what his second opinion tells him. But, make no mistake about it, the Raiders are not sticking with Minshew. They really can't afford to if they want to continue to try and win games.
Minshew had four turnovers last game and has been a turnover machine all season long. O'Connell is the official starter now, but with him being out for some time, the Raiders needed another quarterback, whether it was to challenge Minshew and be the starter or backup or to put one on the practice squad and call up Carter Bradley.
Either way, they were going to make some sort of move.
On Monday afternoon, NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reported that the Raiders have signed former Atlanta Falcons starter, Desmond Ridder, off of the Arizona Cardinals practice squad.
Ridder has started 13 games for the Falcons, and finished with a 64% completion percentage, while also throwing 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. So, really, he does almost the same exact thing Minshew does.
But, they may see something in him that we don't. It's crazy, too, because I just published an article about three quarterbacks they should target at the deadline, and wrote that none of them will happen because this franchise always does the thing you think they won't do.
They did that today.
