The Las Vegas Raiders are lucky that 12 other teams decided to pass on tight end Brock Bowers. Yes, the Raiders needed a quarterback, and they needed one very badly, but they couldn't pass on the best player in the draft. And, we saw that this year, as he broke almost every rookie pass catcher record you can think of, at least all of the ones that really matter.
He was great this year, well, actually, he was the best tight end in the NFL as a rookie. And, he did that on a terrible offense with three different quarterbacks, all while the defense on the other team was literally game-planning for him. That's the stuff of not only Pro Bowlers but All-Pro players.
And, while Bowers possesses all of the physical attributes that one needs to be great at his position, he also possesses the extreme intangibles that one needs to be great.
Nobody is harder on Brock Bowers than Brock Bowers is.
“I still feel like I suck sometimes. Lose a rep here and there…it just pisses me off," Bowers said earlier this week.
Bowers secured some pretty big-time records against the Jacksonville Jaguars and the New Orleans Saints these last two weeks during their two-game win streak. There's not really one to look forward to against the Los Angeles Chargers this week, but he can add to his case to be an All-Pro.
And, he certainly deserves it, too. Look at how the season went for every other top tight end in the NFL, and he was by far the best in the league, even better than the likes of Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs and George Kittle of the San Francisco 49ers.
But this trait, the one where he is hard on himself, will continue to be the reason why he will likely end up in the Hall of Fame one day.
