Being a rookie in the NFL is not easy. Of course, the most difficult job as a rookie is being a starting quarterback. But, when you're a late-round pick fighting for a 53-man roster spot, your job can be tough, just ask several players on the Las Vegas Raiders roster who made it as either a late-round pick or even an undrafted free agent. It takes a lot of hard work, patience, and things going right that are often times out of your control.
On fan favorite rookie so far this year, Dylan Laube, a running back selected in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft we really weren't positive if he would make the roster or not with the pieces the team already had in the running back room. Well, he did, and he did so because of his versatility as a special teams player and a pass-catching running back.
But, like we said, being a rookie is hard, so it could take a while for these guys to get comfortable and out of their shell. It could take a while to see a more comfortable player on the field.
Upon joining the Raiders, Laube quickly made an impression during training camp and preseason, earning praise for his smooth play, agility, and route running, which caught the eye of coaches and teammates alike. He was described as having a natural fit for the Raiders' offensive scheme, particularly with the introduction of more zone-blocking concepts.
Off the field, Laube has also become a personality within the team, earning the nickname "Cheddar Bob" and engaging in team-building activities like rookie skits, which showcased his ability to integrate socially within the locker room.
Now, he's at practice dancing, getting the entire team hyped up, and just vibing. He's out of his shell now, even though he has a very stressful job, and is looking to play his first-ever game on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers.
Who knows, now we can see him really elevate his game now that he's comfortable with a great group of guys by his side.
