During his appearance on NBC’s “Today Show” on July 30, Doncic was asked to confirm or deny the rumors, after host Craig Melvin shared before-and-after photos of the Slovenian from May 2025 and July 2025.
“So, it was just diet and exercise? Melvin asked Doncic about his drastic weight loss in less than 90 days. “No Ozempic, none of those shots or anything?”
Doncic shook his head before responding with, “No.”

Doncic’s Weight Loss Turns Heads
The idea of Doncic consuming Ozempic was first floated by NFL legend Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson, who suggested it on the “Nightcap” podcast in late May, shortly after pictures surfaced of a skinny Doncic attending a Real Madrid game.
“You can’t take that as an NBA player, right?” Johnson asked. “How many weeks have they been out of the season? It ain’t been that long for him to lose all that weight like that. I’m telling you he probably took that Ozempic stuff. I’m telling you.”
Most recently, Men’s Health shared photos of a considerably slimmer Doncic, which further sparked the rumors of his Ozempic use, with one NBA executive telling Heavy Sports’ Steve Bulpett that he initially thought the photo spread was AI-generated.
“When I woke up and saw those, I was like, whoa,” said a southwestern exec.
Luka Doncic Wants to Win Badly
“I give him a lot of credit for putting in the work,” the exec told Heavy Sports.
“You can also look at it like, why did it take him seven years in the league to realize he needed to do something like this? … Before all this, you had to wonder if his body was going to hold up with all that extra weight and allow him to have the kind of long career the franchise would want if it makes that kind of commitment to him.”
Many believe that Doncic has shown, through his actions, that he’s highly committed to winning a championship with the Lakers. Doncic’s willingness to sign a new contract with the Lakers is reportedly predicated on the condition that he wants to win.
“This isn’t signing away to the Lakers and saying, ‘OK, you have my commitment and I’ll have some patience here,’” ESPN’s Dave McMenamin told “NBA Today” on July 29. “It’s ‘I want to win this year, I want to win the subsequent year. So long as my name is signed to a piece of paper saying I am a member of the Los Angeles Lakers, I expect to be in a position to raise banners at the Crypto.com Arena.'”
Doncic’s commitment to the Lakers was further exemplified by his willingness to recruit Marcus Smart and Deandre Ayton, the team’s two high-profile free agency signings.
Smart said he couldn’t turn down the Lakers when Doncic personally called him.
“I played against Luka a lot,” Smart said. “I’ve been on a lot of opposing ends of Luka magic. And to be able to come out and be on his side at this time, it means a lot.”
