In case you missed the memo, the Kansas City Chiefs just lost a legacy game to the Denver Broncos in Week 18 before the playoffs started. At least, that's what Cincinnati Bengals content creators were saying. If they won the game, the Bengals got in, so they wanted KC to win so they could make the playoffs instead of sitting on their couch for two years in a row.
That's what happens when you don't take care of the games early on in your schedule -- you have to rely on other teams to win or lose. And, the Bengals didn't make it because of themselves, not because the Chiefs locked up the No. 1 seed on Christmas Day, so they were able to rest their starters in a meaningless game.
And now, the fans, and even some of the players, are saying that the Chiefs did it because they were scared of potentially matching up with the Bengals. And, that could not be further from the truth.
"I ain't scared of f***ing nobody," Kelce said on his podcast New Heights. "I wanted them [Bengals] in the f***ing playoffs. I want to slay every dragon one by one like in Mortal Combat. I don't want it to be 'play the lowest seeds.' Just give me the best teams. AFC, NFC, give me all of them. Mortal Combat style.
"I'll go through every f***ing one of them just giving them my best f***ing effort. I ain't scared of a single soul. I'll play them at the Wal-Mart parking lot. I don't give a s**t. We can have our own game in the offseason ... We didn't f***ing throw any game. Guys are out there competing their a** off trying to get a win."
Yes, because the Chiefs, a dynasty going for their third ring in a row, and fourth in six years, and the No. 1 seed in the entire league, are scared of the team they have beaten three times in a row now, that has never won a Super Bowl, the team that didn't make the playoffs.
Let's make this make sense. And, thankfully, Kelce did not hold back one bit.
The Chiefs will likely play either the Houston Texans or the Los Angeles Chargers, that is unless the Denver Broncos beat the Buffalo Bills or the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Baltimore Ravens.
