The Kansas City Chiefs have pretty much wrapped up OTAs for the 2024 offseason. They have done all of their Organized Team Activities, and are now looking forward to Mandatory Minicamp, which starts June 11 and will end June 13.
The offseason is moving along fast, and the Chiefs are ready to get the show on the road as they push to become the first team ever to three-peat as Super Bowl champions. But, their preparation starts in the offseason.
There is a reason the Chiefs are becoming one of the most successful franchises ever. They take every portion of the process seriously, and that includes even the smallest things like OTAs.
Now, it's on to minicamp, where things will ramp up even more. Recently, head coach Andy Reid gave us a little insight into what he's looking for from his team now.
"Well, we're throwing a ton out of them, as you know," Reid said on Friday. "And so we've gone back and blended these last couple of days. So we're giving them the AFC West and the first opponent (Baltimore Ravens), but then we start back Day 1 with the installs from there.
"And now they've got to learn after 10 installs, they've got to go back and regurgitate all that stuff. And so it's a whole process there. But they've done a nice job with it. It's great for the young guys. It's mostly veteran guys who have a pretty good feel for it. But the young guys, you know, it's a challenge."
The Chiefs, well, really Andy Reid, are notorious for rookie players not being able to get as up to speed in terms of the playbook as maybe other teams rookies are. The offensive playbook is crazy, and it can take a while.
So, this time is especially important for rookies and those new guys. That is a small reason why the Chiefs chose to bring a guy like Mecole Hardman back on rather than a new player who would have to learn the system this late into the offseason.
The Chiefs have their offseason schedule down fairly well. They know what they are doing this time of year, and they know the standard that needs to be applied and set. Reid will have this team where they need to be, just like he always does, as they go for that three-peat.
