Kansas City Chiefs: Harrison Butker Makes Imploring Post to Vice Presidential Candidate JD Vance

The Kansas City Chiefs have been invited to and visited the Democratic Joe Biden White House following each of their past two Super Bowl appearances. All-Pro tight end Travis Kelce recently said on his New Heights podcast that visiting the White House is a tremendous honor, no matter who the President is. These comments also reflected a statement Kelce posted on Twitter in 2020 when it was debated whether or not the Chiefs would visit the Donald Trump White House.

Kansas City did not visit the White House in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but several players and coaches had said they would have gone.

Of course, the United States is in the midst of an election year, with both Democrats and Republicans passionately expressing and defending their views on multiple societal topics. Often, professional athletes take part in this practice and will endorse one candidate or another.

Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker has been one of the most talked about players of the NFL offseason because of a controversial commencement speech that he gave at Benedictine College. A Catholic follower of the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM), Butker’s speech was filled with opinions that offended many groups of people.

He also criticized President Biden, saying “Our own nation is led by a man who publicly and proudly proclaims his Catholic faith, but at the same time is delusional enough to make the Sign of the Cross during a pro- abortion rally. He has been so vocal in his support for the murder of innocent babies that I’m sure to many people it appears that you can be both Catholic and pro-choice.”

On Friday night, Butker made a post directed at JD Vance, whom former President Trump picked as his Vice-Presidential running mate, regarding his Catholic faith and being pro-choice:

“No party or candidate is perfect. I implore my fellow Catholic @JDVance to help bring the Republican Party back in line with the foundational platform that all life is valuable and there can be no compromise when it comes to defending the unborn. However, with that said: ‘Our obligation is to vote for the lesser of two evils because voting for a lesser evil preserves the good that could be potentially lost.’”Ezoic

As one can see from the post, Butker is concerned about former President Trump saying, “My administration will be great for women and their reproductive rights.”

As one might have expected, Butker received very mixed reactions to his public post to Vance.

“Sorry bud, the constitution comes before your Bible,” one X user wrote.

Another commented, “Thank you for standing for life, Harrison.”

“I implore you to use your brain and realize that if you strongly push your religion onto others that you will lose elections,” said another.

“MAGA won’t listen. Trump has a stranglehold on the GOP. They’re going wherever Trump tells them. MAGA is not pro-life,” wrote another.
