There has been a growing trend in the NFL for several years among some of the top players in the league.
Due to their status and on-field abilities, players have tended to hold out for the largest contract possible, hoping their team comes through with a remarkable deal and offer.
This has worked out well for some, and not so well for others.
Take Le’Veon Bell, for instance.
Bell believed that he was going to get a massive contract if he just held out for long enough, but when push came to shove, the Pittsburgh Steelers were unwilling to budge, so he sat out for a year.
There haven’t been many players to sit out since Bell did it, but the trend of intense negotiations has continued in subsequent seasons.
Many Minnesota Vikings fans were worried about Justin Jefferson’s contract, and that the Vikings would be unable to get a deal done.
While there isn’t much to worry about now that Jefferson has signed a massive deal, he recently revealed his thoughts on that whole situation.
As he mentioned in Netflix’s new “Receiver” documentary, Jefferson said, “I love the game of football. And I want to be the best. So, in order for that to happen, I gotta be out there.”
This indicates that Jefferson was never planning to hold out and that he was going to play for the Vikings this year, even if he didn’t sign a new contract with the team.
Vikings fans can now breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that Jefferson is sticking around for the foreseeable future.
