The New York Jets were officially eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday after a 32-26 overtime loss to the Miami Dolphins.
Sunday marked the third-straight game and sixth game this season that the Jets were either tied or had a lead in the fourth-quarter and still lost.
After the loss, star receiver Garrett Wilson didn't hold back, giving his brutally honest thoughts on the franchise.
“When you’re up in the fourth quarter all of a sudden it starts to feel like we have a losing problem, like a gene or some (expletive),” Wilson said. “It’s not like we’re going out there and getting our butt beat from start to finish. No, we have a chance to win the game, we’re supposed to win the game, odds are in our favor and we find a way to lose.”
When one reporter asked Wilson if he believed that the team had the wrong mindset, he disagreed.
“I don’t think it’s the mindset,” Wilson said. “The mindset is the opposite. Whether or not you can make right on your mindset is different. No, (our) mindset is right, process is right but at the end of the day — we gotta stop being losers.”
With the Jets officially out of the playoffs, it marks the 14th-straight season that New York will miss the postseason, extending the longest streak in all of professional American sports.
Despite the poor season by the team overall, Wilson has had a strong year. He's currently second in the NFL in receptions (81), and eighth in receiving yards (877).
