Jets’ latest roster move doesn’t sound good for Pro Bowl starter heading into Patriots matchup

The New York Jets have elevated linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball from their practice squad before tonight's game against the New England Patriots.

The move appears to signal that middle linebacker C.J. Mosley, who has not practiced all week due to a toe injury he sustained early in the Jets 24-17 victory of the Tennessee Titans, will be unable to play tonight against a Patriots team that will look to run the ball.

Earlier this week Mosley said his injured toe is “still pretty bruised”. He injured it in the first series against the Titans when he was chasing quarterback Will Levis and accidentally kicked the back of a receiver’s heel.

Mosley said, “I’m still pretty sore. No breaks or cracks. It’s not the foot, but a crazy location, just kind of like tip of my big toe. So, it’s just hard to push off right now. So, it’s really just getting the swelling down and pain management.”

McCrary-Ball will provide depth at the linebacker position with Jamien Sherwood getting the start at middle linebacker.

The Patriots will likely look to exploit the Jets run defense with a good running attack with Rhamondre Rtevenson and Antonio Gibson leading the way.  The Patriots are third in the league in rushing attempts through two games.

The Jets also officially placed linebacker Jermaine Johnson on injured reserve today, effectively ending his season.

Johnson tore his Achilles in Tennessee trying to sack quarterback Will Levis.
