The Golden State Warriors were one of the best teams in the NBA in the last ten years. Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green were the core members of the team. They won championships and had many memorable moments together. But this offseason the Warriors dynasty officially came to an end with Thompson leaving the team to join the Dallas Mavericks.
Recently on the “Club 520” Podcast, Draymond Green stated his feelings about Klay Thompson‘s departure from the Warriors. Green admitted that he was happy with Thompson leaving as he wasn’t as happy anymore as he was before. Green felt Thompson needed a change of team and felt that Thompson’s move to Dallas was a great move
I’m happy as hell he's gone, The reason I’m happy he’s gone is because he wasn’t happy anymore. As a brother, I only want what’s best for you, not what’s best for me, not what’s best for this team. Draymond Green via Club 520
Thompson wanted a big contract with the Warriors but the Warriors management denied it and didn’t give Thompson what he wanted. Thompson felt disrespected by the Warriors’ management negotiations and decided to leave. Thompson later signed a three year $50 million deal with the Dallas Mavericks.
While Thompson has only played for one team throughout his career it will be great to see Thompson in a different jersey. He will be joined by the strong backcourt of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving in Dallas. Thompson’s style of play will certainly match with that of the Mavericks. The Warriors also have got a great shooter in Buddy Hield as a replacement for Thompson and great shooting skills.
Draymond Green talks about the Warriors trade talks
The Golden State Warriors are having a very poor offseason as they lost two key pieces for nothing. They waived Chris Paul and lost Klay Thompson due to contract negotiations. The Warriors recently acquired Buddy Hield, a great shooter who can try to fill Thompson’s shoes.
Draymond Green recently talked about the Warriors trade talks but didn’t mention the player they were going to trade. He even stated that the team was looking to get Lauri Markkanen. NBA insider Marc Stein recently noted that the Warriors were planning a trade package that would include rookie Brandon Podziemski, in combination with a future draft pick as compensation for Markkanen.
Markkanen would be a great addition to the Warriors. He would be a great second option behind Curry and a stretch forward who would shoot well and replace some of the perimeter shooting. NBA fans will be waiting for the Warrior’s moves in the remaining offseason as the regular season comes closer.
