Jason Isaacs Shuts Down Southern Charm White Lotus Theory

Season 3 of The White Lotus just ended, and we spent the entire time thinking they modeled some of the characters off of the Southern Charm cast. Apparently, that wasn’t completely true. Jason Isaacs recently sat down with Andy Cohen, and he spilled the real tea on his inspo for his character, Timothy Ratliff. It turns out it had nothing to do with Bravo.

Jason Isaacs didn’t base White Lotus character on Southern Charm star

This story about the Southern Charm and White Lotus connection started early in the season. Sam Nivola, who portrayed Lochlan Ratliff, said in an interview that showrunner Mike White instructed them to watch Southern Charm to prepare for their roles.

“Mike told us to go watch Southern Charm,” Sam said. “Jason Isaacs, who played our dad, modeled his whole accent and character off of [that cast].”

Fast forward a few weeks, and Jason shared a completely different story. Plus, he brought receipts. He appeared on a recent episode of SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live, and he fully debunked the Southern Charm rumors.

Jason said, “I did not watch or base anything on anybody from “Southern Charm.” That’s the end of that conversation. Sorry.”

Immediately, you could tell Andy felt confused. He’s just like us, and he saw all of those articles about how Southern Charm was on the mood board for The White Lotus. However, Jason explained that the accents from the Charleston-based Bravo show didn’t actually align with his character.

“Right at the beginning, [Mike] said, ‘Here’s a guy you might want to think about,’ and I found out instantly when reading the script that I was from Durham,” Jason explained.

When Jason realized that his character was from a totally different Carolina than the Southern Charm cast, he sought help from a dialect coach. The coach encouraged Jason to look elsewhere for his accent.

With that in mind, Jason wound up using politicians from Durham to help him with his accent. No Southern Charm watch parties were required.
