Jalen Ramsey trade reminds Bears fans of stunning player-for-player trade in 2004

It worked out well for Chicago.

The NFL world was gripped by the Jalen Ramsey trade between the Miami Dolphins and the Pittsburgh Steelers that involved multiple players. A move that reminded Chicago Bears fans of a move they made over two decades ago.

Miami traded Ramsey, Jonnu Smith, and a 2027 seventh-round pick to the Steelers in exchange for Minkah Fitzpatrick and a 2027 fifth-round pick. It's not the first time the Dolphins were involved in a big player-for-player trade, as they did it with Chicago a long time ago.

CBS Sports writer Jeff Kerr shared his list of the eight best player-for-player trades since 2000. Kerr brought up the 2004 trade that saw the Bears send wide receiver Marty Booker to Miami for defensive end Adewale Ogunleye.

"The Booker-Ogunleye deal was a notable player-for-player swap at the time, due to how productive both players were for their respective teams. Booker had two 1,000-yard seasons with the Chicago Bears and was a Pro Bowl selection in 2002 while Ogunleye was coming off a 15-sack season with the Miami Dolphins.

Ogunleye was dealt to the Bears in exchange for Booker and a 2005 third-round pick. Booker never had another 1,000-yard season, finishing with 2,627 yards and 11 touchdowns in four years with Miami. Ogunleye had 42 sacks -- and just one double-digit sack season -- in Chicago."

Who won that 2004 trade between Miami and Chicago?

It certainly feels like the Bears won it, as Booker had just gotten past the prime of his career at that point, with his stats dipping at the end of his five-year run in Chicago. Booker wasn't necessarily terrible in Miami as he never had less than 500 yards in a season, but never more than 800.

Even Ogunleye was good, but never got close to his 15-sack season in 2003. He still performed well, with two seasons where he recorded nine and 10 sacks, but was too inconsistent during his six-year tenure with the Bears.

Ironically, Booker and Ogunleye would play together in Chicago when Booker returned to the Bears in 2008. That would be Booker's only season back with the Bears, and Ogunleye was in his second-to-last year in Chicago before departing after the 2009 season.

By all counts, the Bears won the deal as Ogunleye was more productive than Booker. That was a big deal at the time, and one that is still talked about as Ogunleye was still good enough to help those incredible Bears defenses make playoff runs and even a Super Bowl run.

The Dolphins are hoping to have better luck with the Ramsey deal than what happened in 2004 with the Bears.
