How far Alabama football fell in CFP rankings after loss to Oklahoma
Alabama football fell in the most recent CFP rankings, as expected. Such is the nature of losing to an unranked team by three touchdowns on the road.
In the latest College Football Playoff rankings reveal show Tuesday night, the Crimson Tide dropped from No. 7 to No. 13 in the rankings.
Alabama (8-3, 4-3 SEC) sat in a prime spot to make the CFP before this past Saturday. Then, a 24-3 loss to Oklahoma put Alabama’s CFP hopes on life support. That gave the Crimson Tide a third loss on the season, and a bad loss at that. The Sooners had not beat an FBS team since September: Auburn.
Speaking of the Tigers, Alabama will close out the regular season by facing Auburn in the Iron Bowl on Saturday (2:30 p.m. CT, ABC) at Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The Crimson Tide needs to win that game and get some help for it to still make the CFP. Right now, it is the second team out of the rankings because of conference champions getting automatic bids. Alabama needs losses from teams such as Tennessee, Indiana, Notre Dame and SMU for the Crimson Tide to have a shot to make the playoff.
