Houston Texans' early offseason decision has already given them a notable advantage over almost every other team in the NFL

The Houston Texans made a bold move earlier this offseason when they came to terms with wide receiver Jayden Higgins. The big-bodied pass catcher signed a contract that is fully guaranteed when it comes to Higgins' compensation.

Contract for Jayden Higgins

It has become really well-known in recent weeks that the Texans gaveHiggins a fully-guaranteed contract after taking him in round two of the 2025 NFL Draft. With that move, they've placed a ton of pressure on every other NFL team.

30 of 32 second-rounders remain unsigned, and Chargers rookie WR Tre Harris has already started a holdout due to no deal as Los Angeles starts training camp. This is truly an unprecedented scenario around the NFL that has never been the case after the draft.

This choice by Houston could pay off in a major way, as long as Higgins proves to be a vital piece to the passing game for the Texans. They do not have to worry about figuring out a deal for the young receiver as they prepare for this season. Nearly every other team has to worry about that currently.

Higgins' role for Texans offense

I asked A to Z's own Justin Churchill about Higgins' role and potential for Houston in year one. His impact will be an important one for quarterback C.J. Stroud and the rest of the unit.

Jayden Higgins is expected to have a pretty big role in the Houston Texans' offense. Sure, he's not the same type of receiver or the same size as Tank Dell, but they have to make up that production somehow. They brought in Christian Kirk and, of course, drafted Higgins' college teammate in Jalen Noel, but Higgins is the guy who's supposed to be the perfect guy opposite of Nico Collins. In a way, they are very similar players, and when, or if, I should say, Collins is hurt, Higgins will likely be the guy to step into that role. It happened this last year where we saw Collins hurt, and it could happen in 2025 for all we know. Making sure that C.J. Stroud has enough weapons is very crucial and vital to the development of their franchise guy. And, if Stroud doesn't have weapons, and doesn't build that chemistry with these rookie receivers, we could see that affect the Texans in 2025. -- Justin Churchill, A to Z Sports
