Grade the Trade Proposal: Vikings land Jalen Ramsey in huge deal with Dolphins

Huge news in the NFL was revealed earlier this week when NFL Media reported the Miami Dolphins and cornerback Jalen Ramsey have "mutually agreed" to explore trade options. There should be some suitors for the seven-time Pro Bowler, it's a matter of it making sense financially as much as a team's need.

Ramsey is entering his age-31 season, and he did not earn a Pro Bowl selection for the first time since his rookie season last year. But he was still pretty good in 2024, allowing an 83.2 passer rating in his coverage with 11 pass breakups. PFF graded him as its 10th-best cornerback in the league.

The Vikings re-signed Byron Murphy and signed Isaiah Rodgers in free agency, but after that there are question marks on the cornerback depth chart. So the idea of them being in the mix for Ramsey is easy.

Ramsey did not overlap with Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores in Miami when Flores was the head coach there for three years (2019-2021). However, he was with the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, when Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell was the offensive coordinator.

Any conversation about acquiring Ramsey has to include a conversation about his contract. He signed a three-year, $72.3 million deal the Dolphins signed him to last fall. He has already been paid a $4 million roster bonus, so an acquiring team would be taking on $21.1 million guaranteed for this year.

The guaranteed salary in his contract expires after this year, but the Dolphins will carry some dead money impact regardless of the timing of a trade or how they handle the doling out of an option bonus.

Grade the Trade Proposal: Minnesota Vikings swing a deal for Miami Dolphins CB Jalen Ramsey

The Dolphins might like to trade Ramsey before the upcoming NFL Draft, which will begin next Thursday, April 24th. With that in mind, some trade proposals that have already come out are along that line.

Dustin Baker of Vikings Territory recently shared a trade proposal to bring Ramsey to Minnesota.

Bleacher Report also shared a trade proposal recently that sends Ramsey to Minnesota, but they removed the 2026 sixth-rounder that the Vikings would also get in Baker's proposal.

Before a possible move to trade out of the first round and add picks, Minnesota only has a total of four selections in this year's NFL Draft.
