Giants urged to trade for Cincinnati Bengals quarterback

John Mara's Net Worth: How Much Is the Giants' Owner Worth, and How Did the Mara Family Get Rich?

After a 3-14 record, many were surprised by New York Giants owner John Mara’s decision to bring general manager Joe Schoen and head coach Brian Daboll back for a fourth season in 2025. The Giants have reached the postseason once during the tandem’s leadership but have gone just 18-32-1 overall.

Now their biggest priority is to find a quarterback. While the ultimate goal would be to find a long-term solution, the urgency to win now cannot be understated for a pair of leaders who are undoubtedly entering the season on the hot seat.

Recently, the Giants were suggested as a potential trade landing spot for a quarterback who’s shown an ability to play at a high level, but is he available?

The New York Giants boast the third overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. That selection could be used on a quarterback such as University of Miami’s Cam Ward or University of Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. However, ESPN’s Field Yates has also suggested the team could trade for a veteran quarterback.

Recently, Sports Illustrated’s Conor Orr took things a step further by advising the Giants to trade for the Cincinnati Bengals’ backup quarterback Jake Browning.

“What would I do? Use my extra fourth-round draft pick and see if I can pry Jake Browning out of Cincinnati, giving Ward some time to sit in Year 1. Eventually, for Daboll to succeed, he’s going to need the dynamism of a running quarterback. “

Browning will turn 29 next season but he could be a prime breakout candidate. Joe Burrow’s backup has only started seven games and appeared in a total of 12 in his career, yet he has a 4-3 record.

The former undrafted free agent has completed an impressive 70.4% of his passes for 1,936 yards to go with 12 touchdowns and seven touchdowns with the Bengals, but he’d presumably get a much bigger opportunity in New York.
