Giants pass on QB Shedeur Sanders in latest CBS Sports mock draft

How desperate are the New York Giants to find solutions -- bot short and long term -- at quarterback this offseason?

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Why Shedeur Sanders could thrive in New York, plus the Titans move on from Will Levis - CBSSports.com

Desperate enough to bring in Aaron Rodgers, warts and all, or another veteran they would never have considered in the past to take snaps this season.

The future at quarterback also remains murky and they would love nothing more than to bring in a young arm to sit behind a veteran to learn the ropes for a year.

In CBS Sports' latest mock draft by analyst Tom Fornelli, the Giants do half of that. They ink a veteran to be a bridge to a younger player, but they don't reach for one in the first round of the 2025 NFL draft.

Fornelli forecasts the Giants playing things safe with the third overall selection and taking Colorado two-way star Travis Hunter, the reigning Heisman Trophy recipient.

My gut tells me the Giants will end up going the veteran QB route because there's pressure to win now, so instead of reaching for a QB, they go with the guy who may be the best talent in the class. Having Travis Hunter primarily play corner, but mix him in on offense alongside Malik Nabers, would be a lot of fun.

They land Hunter after the Tennessee Titans select Penn State edge rusher Abdul Carter and Cleveland takes Miami quarterback Cam Ward, who is believed to be the Giants' top choice of quarterbacks in this draft.

There's been chatter about the Giants making a deal to move up to the No. 1 spot to eliminate Cleveland from beating them to Ward. Tennessee has sent out signals that they are not going to take a quarterback at No. 1. They will either trade back or take a player such as Carter.

The Giants bypass Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders here because the general consensus is that Ward has surpassed him as the top player at that position. Many scouts and draft pundits have Sanders rated as a mid-to-late first round pick at the moment.

The Giants, in this scenario, take the draft's best and most intriguing player in Hunter. He can help them in all three phases of the game, upgrade their roster, add some explosiveness and also provide a shift in the sagging narrative of the franchise.

The Giants can hope to take a quarterback with their second pick, No. 34, where they could have a surprise candidate waiting for them.
