Giants late-round rookie stuns with jaw-dropping one-handed grab amid bid to secure a 53-man roster spot in 2025

The New York Giants appear to be invested in figuring out the composition of an impactful tight end room in 2025. The Brian Daboll era in New York has seen Daniel Bellinger claim an early role as a rookie, then saw the team target Darren Waller, then draft Theo Johnson in 2024. New York also signed veteran Greg Dulcich this offseason. Daboll's offense leans heavily into 11-personnel, making the tight end a key piece of the puzzle in both the run game and the pass game.

But Thursday brought a highlight for the "other" new tight end brought into the mix this offseason — rookie draft choice Thomas Fidone showed off his tremendous ball skills with an acrobatic adjustment that should have got him plenty of helmet taps on the sideline afterwards.

Rookie tight end Thomas Fidone makes an incredible one-handed catch

Fidone, who was once upon a time a 4-star recruit out of high school as a member of the recruiting class of 2021, battled through injuries in his career at the University of Nebraska before enjoying a breakout 2024 campaign. The medical background was a likely a big part of why Fidone ultimately fell to the 219th pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, where the Giants made him their latest hedge to a tight end room that's been difficult to nail down.

Theo Johnson has a chance to fully seize control of the room in 2025, but Fidone's athleticism and ball skills, if healthy, clearly deserve a seat at the table. He illustrated that on this play in particular. It hasn't been a talent issue that's prevented Fidone from living up to his full potential.

For New York, the team can only hope that these kinds of plays continue deeper into camp. If they do, the Giants may finally have enough at tight end to feel good about not just the top dog in the room, but also the depth to allow them to have good matchups throughout the course of a 17 game marathon.
