The 100th season of New York Giants football has been historic for all the wrong reasons. With their Week 18 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles, the 3-14 Giants have set a franchise record for the most losses in a single season.
Head coach Brian Daboll has been on the hot seat all year, but you wouldn't know it by his responses to the media.
"Yeah, we're 3-14 but I believe in our people and believe in our process," Daboll said in a news conference.
When asked about how he feels about his job security, Daboll didn't give anything away and said he would talk to ownership as he does "every week."
The confidence on display is admirable with Black Monday, the day when non-playoff teams clean house after the regular season, being less than 24 hours away.
According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, Daboll may be given another chance. Giants owner Jon Mara has signaled he doesn't want to change the team's leadership after just three years with Daboll in charge. New York has gone through four head coaches since Tom Coughlin retired in 2015, and the instability is a product of bad play on the field.
The Giants hold the third pick in the draft and could draft their quarterback of the future after cutting Daniel Jones midway through the season. Daboll has yet to work with a quarterback of his choosing like most other coaches in charge of a rebuilding team. However, it's hard to say the team is just a quarterback away.
Daboll has consistently put the blame squarely on himself and hasn't scapegoated other players and coaches. It should be the mark of a good head coach, but the Giants have a combined record of 18-32-1 since Daboll took over in 2022.
Whether ownership is willing to overlook the current product on the field instead of starting over again will be found out soon enough.
