One thing you can always say about George McCaskey is he embraces the fans. Most NFL owners wouldn’t be caught dead interacting with people in the stands or the parking lots. Not George. He has shown time and again that he is willing to meet them at their level, thanking them for their support of the Chicago Bears. People can question his ability to run the franchise, but they can’t say he doesn’t care. He proved that again on Sunday when cameras caught him in the Soldier Field parking lot interacting with fans.

That wasn’t all. Apparently, someone chanted “Fire Flus” at him. Rather than ignore it or deny it, McCaskey seemed to acknowledge the reality. He didn’t outright say it would happen, but felt like the first real indication that the head coach is on borrowed time.
He may lack true football expertise, but he’s not stupid. Eberflus is 14-31. His .311 winning percentage would be the third-worst in franchise history if the season ended today. There is a strong probability it will get worse, with the Bears having the hardest remaining schedule in the league. He’s 5-18 in one-score games and is four losses away from clinching the second-longest losing streak in Bears history. Keep in mind he currently holds the longest with 14 games as well. Nothing about his tenure justifies keeping him beyond the 2024 season. George McCaskey seems to understand that. Only two questions remain for him. When does he fire Eberflus, and does GM Ryan Poles go with him?
History says the former happens after the season finale in January. The latter remains a mystery. Phil Emery got fired alongside Marc Trestman, but Ryan Pace got to hire a second coach. That will be something to determine once Eberflus is gone.
