Former Seahawks Pro Bowler without a job deserves a training camp invite

While the 2025 offseason has had tremendous turnover for the Seattle Seahawks, 2024 wasn't far off this year's pace. Instead of the important trades that general manager John Schneider has pulled off this year, last year was more about releasing expensive veterans.

Jamal Adams was among a group of three veterans released a week before the start of free agency, but Adams needed to go. He was almost always a liability in coverage and had lost the explosiveness that allowed him to chase down quarterbacks consistently.

One of the other veterans released was a tougher decision. Safety Quandre Diggs had a 2024 cap hit of nearly $20 million, and his 2023 season was not his best for Seattle. He was only 31 years old. He potentially could have played for another couple of seasons and been productive. He should still have that chance.

Former Seahawks safety Quandre Diggs deserves another chance in the NFL

After the Seahawks released Diggs, he signed with the Tennessee Titans. Tennessee was not good last season, and neither was Diggs. He was a poor fit in a poor Titans defensive scheme. He also suffered a Lisfranc injury in Week 9 and missed the rest of the season.

He deserves another chance in the NFL. That might not be with the Seattle Seahawks, who appear set with Julian Love, Coby Bryant, and rookie Nick Emmanwori, but should one of those players get hurt and Diggs is still un-signed, John Schneider should invite Diggs in for a visit.

For the player, let's hope it doesn't come to that. Diggs didn't succeed in the league because of his elite speed (he was fast, but nowhere near the fastest safety) or huge size (he is only 5'9" and 200 pounds), but because of his football IQ. That isn't going to dissipate.

Diggs would be a fantastic addition to a young team needing a bit of veteran guidance. He can also help on the field, too. It isn't as if Diggs would simply be a great voice in the locker room. He can contribute.

Besides 2024, he has remained healthy. He didn't miss a game in the four seasons before last season, and in three of those years, he made the Pro Bowl. In five seasons with the Seahawks, he allowed 10 touchdown passes but had 18 interceptions.

While his quarterback rating allowed was a bad 137.2 in 2024, he allowed just 9.3 yards per target, his second-lowest number since 2019. In other words, some of his raw numbers implied his passer rating was not as awful as it appeared.

Quandre Diggs deserves a chance to play in the NFL again. He is a stand-up person and a good leader, and his opportunity might not come with the Seahawks, but it should come somewhere.
