Former Ravens draft pick may not make it out of another training camp

After Lamar Jackson became the franchise quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, the team used a lot of their draft picks on wide receivers. Baltimore was trying to give its special quarterback a quality pass-catching group, but not many of the picks actually panned out. One of the drafted receivers who didn’t work out with the Ravens was James Proche. Now, he’s trying to make it work with another team.

Tennessee Titans James Proche II stretches during OTAs at Ascension Saint Thomas Sports Park in Nashville, Tenn., Wednesday, May 28, 2025.

Baltimore selected Proche in the sixth round of the 2020 NFL Draft, and he played three seasons with the team. In three years, the wideout appeared in 43 games, catching just 25 passes for 278 yards. After being waived in 2023, Proche spent the last two seasons with the Cleveland Browns, but he’s now with the Tennessee Titans heading into training camp.

Former Ravens receiver James Proche will face uphill battle with Titans

Proche didn’t produce much during his two seasons in Cleveland, catching just three passes for 21 yards in 19 games. Still, he was signed by Tennessee this offseason, and he’ll be trying to carve out a role for himself on a rebuilding Titans team that suddenly has a crowded wide receiver room. With a top-drafted quarterback, Tennessee is making sure to give Cam Ward pass catchers to throw to.

In addition to Proche, the Titans have returning starters Calvin Ridley and Treylon Burks, as well as veteran newcomers Tyler Lockett and Van Jefferson. Tennessee also added rookies Chimere Dike, Elic Ayomanor, and Xavier Restrepo. It’s a healthy mix of veteran and young talent that could create a productive receiving room to help Tennessee’s rookie quarterback out.

While that’s good for Ward, all the names in the room could be a bad thing for Proche. He will have a ton of competition as he tries to make a role for himself and continue his career. With only one season over 100 receiving yards in his five-year career, the veteran wideout is still trying to prove he can be a consistent contributor. He’ll need a dominant training camp in Tennessee to prove that with the Titans.
