When the Las Vegas Raiders hired veteran general manager Tom Telesco last offseason, he made a series of questionable decisions that set the team back in 2024. His obvious blunder was signing quarterback Gardner Minshew to a two-year deal, but he also made a mistake by adding wide receiver Michael Gallup to the roster.
Gallup was a member of the Raiders for roughly three months during the offseason before abruptly retiring in late July just prior to training camp. However, Gallup is returning to the NFL, as Adam Schefter reported on Thursday that the Washington Commanders were signing him as a veteran pass catcher for Jayden Daniels.
The Commanders already added former 49ers wide receiver Deebo Samuel this offseason, and they are continuing to bolster their wide receiver room with the addition of Gallup. He last played in 2023 for the Dallas Cowboys, catching 34 passes for 418 yards and two touchdowns.
Las Vegas initially brought Gallup in to compete with second-year receiver Tre Tucker for playing time as the team's No. 3 wideout, but Tucker was essentially handed the position after Gallup's retirement. The quarterback situation was awful for the Raiders last season, which prevented Tucker from having the season that he wanted, but perhaps Gallup saw this unfolding and decided against playing. Now he'll have new life in Washington.
