Former Player Reveals If Daniel Jones Will Keep His Starter Job

Some were surprised when the New York Giants took wide receiver Malik Nabers from Louisiana State University with the No. 6 pick in last month’s NFL draft.

Leading up to the draft, there was some buzz that they would take a quarterback such as J.J. McCarthy and that they wanted to move on from Daniel Jones.

Former NFL quarterback David Carr said on NFL Network that he doesn’t think Jones will be the starter for the Giants all season.

Ever since he was the No. 6 pick in the 2019 draft, Jones hasn’t quite become what some thought he would become by now.

He threw 24 touchdown passes as a rookie, but since then, he hasn’t had more than 15 in a single season.

In 2023, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 8 and was limited to just six games, and in his absence, backup Tommy DeVito shined brightly for a few games.

This year, Drew Lock is second on the Giants’ depth chart at QB, and Carr seems to believe he has a real chance of becoming their starter before too long.

If Nabers becomes a Pro Bowl-caliber receiver, it would greatly help Jones be able to play adequate football, but the departure of star running back Saquon Barkley, who joined the NFC East rival Philadelphia Eagles, will hurt.

New York also added two-time Pro Bowl edge rusher Brian Burns, and the reality is that for them to duplicate their success from 2022 when they unexpectedly made the playoffs, they will have to win with defense.
