Former Player Attacks Caleb Williams For Dumbest Possible Reason

Caleb Williams just can’t win. The guy has so much talent. He had loads of success in college for USC, winning the Heisman trophy. He carried them to winning records when signs showed that it should not have been the case. He deserved to be the #1 overall pick. The Chicago Bears started him immediately and proceeded to showcase one of the worst plans for a rookie season in NFL history. Not only did they deploy an offensive line with loads of questions around it, but they also trusted a coaching staff that had done nothing to earn it. What followed was multiple midseason firings and 68 sacks.

Yet, from the way people keep talking about him, one would think Williams was the sole cause of last year’s disaster. Chris Canty played ten seasons in the NFL as a defensive tackle. He won a Super Bowl with the New York Giants in 2011. That is probably why ESPN continues to employ him as an analyst. It certainly isn’t for his stellar takes. During the Unsportsmanlike show, he made his distaste for Williams clear, labeling him a “celebrity quarterback” who is more interested in his personal brand than winning football games.

Caleb Williams has done nothing to deserve such criticism.

Yes, he has other interests outside of football. He’s already gotten the ball rolling on multiple business ventures. When did that become a crime? Professional athletes have been doing that for decades. Michael Jordan was signing shoe deals and other endorsement opportunities before he even played a single game in the NBA. Patrick Mahomes, the best quarterback on the planet, has a loaded portfolio of business dealings outside the NFL. Nobody seems to be calling him a celebrity QB. Only Caleb Williams is catching strays for it. Why? Mostly because he’s a unique personality. Certain things he does rub the traditionalists the wrong way, from painting his nails to crying in his mom’s arms after games.

Meanwhile, everybody raves about his work ethic and toughness. He showed both last season, never once complaining about the constant issues around him. If he were the true prima donna Canty makes him out to be, there would’ve been nothing but whining for months. Don’t criticize somebody for dumb reasons.
