Former Packers Star “Won’t Rule Out” a Return to Team in 2025

Week 17 Daily fantasy football picks: Stacks to consider

The Green Bay Packers season is not over yet as they take on the Philadelphia Eagles in the Wild Card Round this weekend. Fortunately, starting quarterback Jordan Love has been a full participant in practice over the last two days and does not have an injury designation for Sunday. He had injured his elbow in Green Bay’s Week 18 loss to the Chicago Bears.

Unfortunately, the Packers will be without wide receiver Christian Watson for the duration of the NFL Playoffs and probably the start of next season. The third-year pass catcher tore his ACL in the loss to Chicago.

Not only does his loss affect the way the Green Bay offense can prepare and attack defenses in the postseason, it also will influence how Brian Gutekunst approaches constructing the roster for 2025.

Without Watson, they will certainly need to look into acquiring another wide receiver, and one former Packers star may be open to returning.

Former Green Bay Packers All-Pro Wide Receiver Davante Adams Is Not Ruling Out a Return

Green Bay Packers, Davante Adams
Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams (17) hauls in a pass during third quarter of the Green Bay Packers game against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Monday, Sept. 20, 2021. The Packers won 35-17.

As fans recall, three-time All-Pro wide receiver Davante Adams requested a trade away from the Packers when the two sides could not reach an agreement on a contract extension following the 2021 NFL season. Since then, Adams has played for the Las Vegas Raiders and New York Jets.

Due to the Jets’ dismal season and their reported interest in moving on from both Adams and Aaron Rodgers this offseason, there is a great deal of speculation as to where the former Packers great will play next season.

During a recent appearance on the “Up and Adams” podcast with Kay Adams, the three-time All-Pro revealed that he is not ruling out re-signing with Green Bay (or any of the teams he has played for):

“You wouldn’t rule out returning to a team that rhymes with Smackers, right?” Adams asked the current Jets wide receiver.

Laughing at her quip, Adams replied, “You can’t rule anything out. I’ve got a lot of love for all the organizations I’ve played for, so I wouldn’t rule that out. I wouldn’t rule out anybody.

“You know, obviously, I think that there might be some saltiness from some of the fanbases that I’ve been with because of not understanding what I was going through and the decision that I decided to make for my own personal career, which somehow hurt everybody.

“But I would say, ‘Yeah,’ I’m keeping my mind open to whatever. Obviously the Packers are a great team and if they felt like that was a possibility for me, and like I said, I’m still with the Jets so I can’t be out here talking about going to other teams.

“Obviously, this is going to be an interesting offseason. It’s been different than any one I’ve had in the past, so talking about potential landing spots is a little bit different this time. I don’t know. We’ll see. Definitely keeping an open mind.”

It was during an appearance on the “Up and Adams” show last offseason where the host encouraged now All-Pro safety Xavier McKinney to join the Packers. And while the front office and McKinney deserve the credit for getting that deal done, fans have jokingly (or seriously) thanked Kay Adams for it all season long.

One fan quipped on social media that if Davante ends up re-signing back with the Packers, fans should build a Kay Adams statue at Lambeau Field.

If Adams does come back to Green Bay, he would join notable Packers wide receivers James Jones and Randall Cobb as significant recent players who have come back after a stint with other teams.
