It's no secret that Drake Maye has the entire NFL world impressed.
While the New England Patriots' record might not reflect it, the rookie quarterback is proving that the future is very bright in Foxborough.
And former NFL quarterback turned ESPN analyst provided a very honest take about Maye's chances of winning one coveted award.
Sunday's loss to the Rams was Maye's best performance of his career so far. He moved outside of the pocket to avoid the sack, staying patient to make very hard plays. His throws were accurate, and it was the rookie quarterback that helped the Patriots stay in the game until the last moment.
While he did have some mistakes, which included the fumble and then the late intercepted, he's a rookie and is still learning.
Maye finished the game going 30-for-40 for 282 yards and two touchdowns.
Below is a chart showing first-round rookie quarterback's dropback EPA and team pass protection. And Maye is in a league of his own.
He's holding his own, and imagine what he would be capable of if he had the proper weapons around him.
The Patriots quarterback already has 10 touchdowns this season, which is more than Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, who was selected with the No. 1 overall pick. Washington Commanders' Jayden Daniels has 14 total, while Broncos' Bo Nix is ahead with 19 touchdowns this year.
However, all three of those other quarterbacks were the starters from Day 1. Maye only took over in Week 6.
Yet, as Orlovsky said, because of the Patriots record, Maye probably won't win Offensive Rookie of the Year. Daniels is currently the favorite, while Maye is 75/1.
So one thing is clear: the Patriots got a good one.
