For years, there were rumors and reports about Furkan Korkmaz’s desire to leave the Philadelphia 76ers.
For undisclosed reasons, the veteran forward didn’t want to be a part of the team anymore.
They granted him that wish last season by trading him to the Indiana Pacers as a part of the Buddy Hield trade, and the Pacers released him.
Despite multiple rumors about him going back to Europe to play overseas, Korkmaz made it loud and clear that he still intended to play in the NBA.
Fast forward to today, and that’s no longer the case.
According to a report by Evan Sidery of Forbes Sports, the Turkish veteran has agreed to head back to the old continent to play for AS Monaco.
AS Monaco has been a powerhouse recently, and this addition should significantly bolster their chances in the Euroleague.
Even so, the fact that it took Korkmaz so long to sign with a European team proves that he’s all but willing to head back to the NBA if the opportunity presents itself.
He’s a versatile player who can do a little bit of everything and knock down shots from beyond the arc.
The Sixers didn’t particularly miss him but that’s not because of him but thanks to all the depth they added to their roster.
And now that they’ve signed Paul George, they’re firmly expected to finally get past the second round of the playoffs for the first time since Joel Embidi made it to the league.
