Flyers No Longer Sharing Home with 76ers in Future

In the near future, the Philadelphia Flyers will no longer be sharing the Wells Fargo Center – and whatever it’s renamed to at the end of the season – with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Flyers, 76ers To Provide Reimbursement Options

Philadelphia mayor Cherelle L. Parker announced Wednesday that the 76ers will indeed be staying in Philly, but that her administration has an agreement in place to build a new arena in Market East in close proximity to Chinatown.

Flyers governor Dan Hilferty, the chairman and CEO of Comcast Spectacor, reacted to Wednesday’s news, saying in a statement, “Alongside the Phillies, we are creating the dynamic and accessible destination for sports and entertainment that will create thousands of jobs, amplify our city, and create numerous community benefits. Either way, we always want what is best for Philadelphia.

“Regardless of the outcome of the City’s negotiations with HBSE, our door will always be open for the 76ers to join us in South Philadelphia if they ever conclude that is what is best for their team.”

The 76ers’ lease at the Wells Fargo Center ends in 2031, so time will be of the essence in order to have the ambitious Market East arena built and ready to go for the 2031-32 NBA season.

“Now, I’m going to have a lot more to say in a forthcoming, formal presentation,” Mayor Parker said in a recorded statement on Wednesday afternoon.

Hilferty’s Comcast Spectacor will be tasked with renaming the Wells Fargo Center, the home of the Flyers, in August 2025, so expect more sports complex-related news coming out of Philadelphia throughout the 2024-25 sports season.
